Explosion protection and explosion-proof devices for hazardous areas
What do we do? - Explosion-proof cameras and lights
Samcon develops, produces and sells explosion proof camera systems and lighting systems for hazardous areas/zones and the appropriate installation accessories (cables, mounting systems, connection systems). The spectrum ranges from simple cameras in explosion-proof housings, which deliver images directly to a monitor, to complex CCTV systems with audio system for object monitoring or with connection to a process control system.
Who we are, why we do what we do and who we do it for ...
Our explosion-proof cameras and lights: Safety, state-of-the-art technology and ingenious solutions
Safety is paramount in hazardous environments. Our explosion-proof cameras and lights offer industry-leading technology to monitor and protect your facilities. SAMCON Ex surveillance cameras can be used worldwide, whether in the Arctic or in the desert, at sea or on land. SAMCON produces camera and communication systems certified according to national and international safety standards (ATEX, IECEx, INMETRO, UKEX, EAC-Ex, PESO, MASC, ...) for hazardous areas. From simple Ex camera monitor applications to complex CCTV systems with audio system for object monitoring or with connection to a process control system, we always offer our customers the optimum solution. Quality planning, perfectly thought-out device technology, safety and customer satisfaction are our top priorities.
ATEX, IECEx certification and more: cameras and lights with worldwide certification for explosion protection
SAMCON develops and produces explosion-protected camera and communication systems, Ex d luminaires and empty housings with protection class Ex d (flameproof housing). In areas where there is a risk of explosion, sparks must be avoided as they could ignite the surrounding gas. Our protection systems are developed and manufactured in such a way that no ignition spark can escape from the enclosure, so that vapors, gases, dusts or fibers and suspended matter in the environment cannot be ignited by flying sparks. In addition, the surface temperature of the housing must not be too high. The temperature range, or the operating temperature range in which our explosion-proof devices may be operated, ranges from -60°C to +130°C (with active cooling, high temperature range).SAMCON products are manufactured in Germany, comply with international standards, are extremely durable and can be individually adapted to the customer's needs!
Extremely robust cameras in explosion-proof housings
Both the ExCam series and the liteServer series for Zone 1 are installed in a heavy-duty stainless steel housing. Due to the high-quality materials, the corrosion resistance of the devices is outstanding and the housings are protected against chemically aggressive environments, making them perfect for the toughest environments in the world.
Certification is our specialty
Only electrical devices that meet the strictest requirements may be installed in hazardous areas. To determine the conformity and suitability of the products, tests are carried out in accordance with special industry standards (including DIN EN 60079-14). All applicable standards are based on the same criteria. The concentration values and duration for flammable gases or dusts are defined. Hazardous areas in North America are categorized according to "Class" and "Division". In the rest of the world, the international IECEx zone system or national versions of these standards apply. SAMCON cameras for hazardous areas are certified worldwide for Zone 1,21 (according to ATEX, IECEx and more) and Zone 2,22 (according to ATEX and IECEx). The stainless steel housing is explosion-proof and certified for ATEX Group I (mining) with a low risk of mechanical hazard and for ATEX Group II for Zones 1, 2 as well as 21 and 22 including explosion groups IIC / IIIC with a high risk of mechanical hazard. We have also received certificates for global hazardous areas such as INMETRO for Brazil, PESO for India, MASC for South Africa, EAC-Ex for Russia and UKEX for the United Kingdom. We are very well networked with inspection bodies such as DEKRA and TÜV. This enables us to obtain different certificates for other markets such as Japan or China if required. Certified products must be labeled accordingly to indicate the type of protection, the level of protection and the permitted ambient temperatures.
Explosion-proof housing meets video camera in FullHD resolution
Application for Explosion-Proof Network-Cameras
SAMCON cameras are manufactured in such a way that no ignition spark can escape the camera housing (explosion proof camera housings). Thus the cameras can be used in explosion risk areas, such as
- Offshore; drilling platforms, e.g. for monitoring boreholes
- Monitoring hazardous areas with the help of AI
- Chemical industry
- Pharmaceutical plants
- Biogas plants and silos
- Mechanical Engineering
- Energy industry: waste water, wind power, power plants
- Sewage treatment plants, recycling and landfills
- Mines and quarries
- Marine and shipbuilding
- Port facilities and logistics platforms
- Refineries, tank farms, fuel depots, pipelines and distribution stations
- Gas leak monitoring
- Automated inspection of anomalies
- Tank inspection system, monitoring of LNG tanks
- Monitoring of engines with the help of thermographic cameras
- Food processing
- Process-controlled mechanical engineering
- Paint shops
- Galvanization
- Monitoring of aircraft hangars, factories and warehouses
- CCTV security, remote monitoring
- Pipe inspection cameras
- Infrared cameras
- Thermographic cameras/Flir
- Cameras for wells and boreholes
The ExCam series: explosion-proof cameras (fixed, PTZ & dome cameras, thermographic cameras) with excellent image processing, analytical intelligence and easy remote access
The ExCam series has a modular design, which means that it can be specially adapted to different application scenarios. From ultra-compact Ex d housings for process monitoring to large dome housings for monitoring large areas: the range of video cameras extends from simple static video cameras to IP cameras with pan-tilt-zoom function (PTZ cameras) including intelligent evaluation electronics to explosion-proof dome cameras with wiper technology, cooling, heating and audio connection/micro. We also have measuring thermal imaging cameras in our range, all of which are ATEX-compliant. Advanced analysis functions and deep learning processors (DLPU) make the evaluation and processing of images extremely effective.
Ex-protected: Analog and digital video camera according to ATEX 2014/34/EU, IECEx and more
All cameras in the ExCam series are suitable for use in potentially explosive dust and gas atmospheres thanks to their installation in explosion-proof camera housings and comply with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU. The technology used can be selected between analog and digital video cameras. With analog systems, the video image is transmitted as a television signal (PAL or NTSC). They can be connected directly to analog monitors or network video servers and can be easily integrated into existing systems. Digital systems (IP cameras with PoE) generate a network video stream that can be transmitted via the intranet or internet. The resolution of digital cameras (e.g. 1920x1080 = FullHD, 4K, 8K, 5MP, QHD) is much higher than that of comparable analog cameras in explosion-proof camera housings.
Cables and wires for use in hazardous areas
Particularly noteworthy are our cables and wires that have been specially developed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. They meet the high requirements of the DIN EN 60079-14 standard and the transmission characteristics of category 6A in accordance with IEC 61156-5 Ed.2. The cables for Ex cameras are extremely robust, have excellent resistance to mechanical stress, good resistance to oil, seawater, lubricants and mud, are UV-resistant, flame-retardant and halogen-free. Using suitable cable glands for hazardous areas, our cables can be inserted directly into flameproof enclosures.
Extensive range of accessories
Our range is supplemented by various accessories: sun visors, weather protection roofs, washing and cleaning systems, integrated heating, installation material and the corresponding video servers. Our terminal boxes have protection class Ex e.
