Integration of analog camera systems in a refinery via interfaces with remote access options

Project planning

One of the largest refineries in southern Europe with direct connections to the largest ports in the Mediterranean and direct access to the Atlantic, examines, produces, refines, transports, markets and sells crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas. The company also generates and sells thermal energy to industrial customers and tertiary sector consumers, and supplies crude oil and other products to refineries and fuel to ships. The Company has facilities and other operations around the world.

The requirement was to connect the existing analog systems and lines, which are arranged across the extensive area in the (gas) explosive area, via interfaces and to create the possibility of both centralized and decentralized access. This interface openness was the main aspect of our project planning in order to select the grouping according to access rights (management, occupational safety, fire protection) and to create the division into different areas. By adding SAMCON PTZ cameras and their video signals, SAMCON creates the possibility for the refinery to create a site plan and to receive global visualization as well as local selected access via a LAN connection.

High image quality is crucial in order to clearly record a process and to clearly identify people or objects involved in the endangered area (to prevent sources of danger, to ensure operational safety and fire protection).

Our systems are not only used for safety monitoring and leak detection, but also provide information when critical atmospheres arise due to leaks or gas expansion.
