Network connection in hazardous areas without opening the Ex-d terminal compartment

The problem:
Working on and modifying Ex-d-enclosures can be tricky: As soon as flameproof devices have been transferred from the manufacturer to the customer, the responsibility for safe use lies with the end user. If a network cable is to be connected in the conventional way, the flameproof enclosure must be opened, the cable inserted, sealed, connected and the connection compartment closed again. Explosion safety must be ensured each time the enclosure is opened.

Wouldn´t it be much easier if you could do without a connection room altogether? SAMCON flipConnect^®makes it possible!

The solution:
With flipConnect^®, the practical IP connection mechanism from SAMCON, explosion-proof connection is child´s play and as "Plug and Play" as with non-Ex-devices.

The RJ45 socket of the connection mechanism protrudes out of the Ex-d-housing for the connection work. After inserting the RJ45 plug, the flipConnect^® socket is returned into the Ex-d-housing, where it locks into place. Dependimg on the installer´s requirements, the RJ45 socket is therefore easily accessible outside the protective housing for connectionor, securely packaged for use, inside the protective housing. With a simple push mechanism, similar to a ballpoint pen, flipConnect^®can be released again.

The cable opening in the housing is used as a place for the connection socket, the socket is pulled outwards via a pressure mechanism (1) including the electrical connection, locked (2), the cable connection is made outside the device, then the cable is returned (3) into the device with the closure (4) of the cable entry, finished.

One connection mechnism for many connection variants

SAMCON flipConnect^®can be used in many ways: in combination with barrier cable glands, glands for armored cables, rubber-ring-sealing glands, conduit systems. The dicisive factor is the cable entry for the cable. In terms of device approval, flipConnect^® is integrated into the device, so there are no restrictions with regards to approval/ certification.
