Camera and Lighting in an ultra-compact design for mining

Projekt Planning

When using electrical components in potentially explosive areas in mining, the impact resistance of the devices is an essential requirement and the required temperature ranges are also more clearly defined. In addition, the installations in mines are often large, heavy and mechanically very complex (e.g. mine lights or engines that are at risk of firedamp), which poses an additional challenge for the equipment used.

In order to be prepared for these difficult applications, we have already had the protection system of our device series tested to mining standards, with the borosilicate glass flange of the viewing window being a particularly vulnerable component in the impact resistance test. All of our optical borosilicate glass openings have been tested with a 7 Joul impact test, while only 4 J is required in areas with a gas explosion hazard.

Our enclosures are tested for ATEX Group I (mining) with a low risk of mechanical hazard and for ATEX Group II for Zones 1, 2 as well as 21 and 22, including explosion groups IIC / IIIC with a high risk of mechanical hazard approved.

While mining activity in Europe is now essentially limited to shaft maintenance and repairs, mining is still actively carried out in China, Russia and Australia, among others, and mining is an important sector of the economy.

Our good network with certification bodies and our expertise in certification worldwide made it possible to obtain a certificate for China. This approval, as well as the compact size and the possibility of combining camera and lighting technology, were decisive in our customer ultimately making the decision in favor of our cameras.

This means that our liteServer series can also be perfectly adapted to the respective camera system in terms of illumination for mining areas and not only different construction variants, but also different light wavelengths (visible light and infrared light) are available.

Even underground areas can be illuminated in infrared using our device technology and visualized using high-performance cameras.

Testimonial

“A broad approval landscape for gas, dust and mining, the combination of illumination technology and high-performance sensors in ultra-compact sizes as well as quality “Made in Germany” motivated us to use the SAMCON product range.”
