Video surveillance vs. industrial image processing
Cameras and optical sensors have long been an integral part of control systems in mechanical engineering. In general, a distinction is made between two applications: video surveillance and industrial image processing.
While in video surveillance the recorded images are displayed on monitors to a human observer who then makes decisions, industrial image processing goes one step further. Here, the machine makes a decision autonomously and automatically by means of a decision control system - there is no need for human monitoring.
